What is Rotary?

Rotary International is the world's first service club. The original Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905 to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. Rotary International leverages the resources of 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide to improve the world. Its activities include projects to eradicate polio worldwide, increase education, health, and welfare for underprivileged peoples, and improve the understanding and cooperation around the world.

Who are Rotarians?

We are 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. Rotarians are business and professional men and women who are community and national leaders united worldwide to conduct humanitarian projects, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

How do Rotarians work?

Our impact starts with our membersópeople who work tirelessly with their clubs to solve some of our communities' toughest challenges. Their efforts are supported by Rotary International, our member association, and The Rotary Foundation, which turns generous donations into grants that fund the work of our members and partners around the world. Rotary is led by our membersóresponsible leaders who help to carry forward our organization's mission and values in their elected roles.
